Waste solutions:

Driving plastic recycling through industry support

The South African Plastics Recycling Organisation (SAPRO) is the national association of plastic recycling companies with a mandate to grow the recycling rate for waste plastics. The core of SAPRO’s efforts is to 1) improve the quality of materials entering the recycling value chain, 2) support companies operating in the recycling industry and 3) to grow end-markets for recycled plastics. To this end, SAPRO provides plastics producers with a free Design for Recycling online tool and helps recyclers get access to recyclable materials. SAPRO works to improve legislation that entrenches recycling as a solution for waste and eliminates greenwashing. SAPRO hosts an annual industry gala dinner to celebrate growth and innovation in the uptake of recycled plastics called the SAPRO Awards for the Best Recycled Plastic Products. SAPRO also produces a quarterly industry insights newsletter which is available by signing-up here.
